Traveling by Camper: Unusual Experiences in Rest Areas

After dedicating two blog posts to tent campers, today we want to offer some useful advice to our camper friends traveling in Italy. Not all rest areas are the same, and we especially want to introduce you to some rest areas that offer true experiences. Yes, even a stop in a camper can become a special occasion to dive into local delicacies, enjoy forest bathing, or participate in an escape game in the woods. In this post, we present a small selection from Northern and Central Italy.

Camper Rest Area at a Farm Brewery in the Casentinesi Forest Park

Raise your hand if you wouldn't want to arrive at a rest area in your camper and be greeted with a nice cold beer. This beautiful farm brewery is located in a completely renovated old farmhouse. Here, strictly artisanal beer is produced using barley grown in the Casentino fields. You can even participate in the brewing of light beer, a truly unique experience. In addition to classic beers, you can taste a special chestnut beer and other products derived from the brewing process, such as taralli and beer jelly. The farm brewery is strategically located in the Casentinesi Forest Park, near Bibbiena in the province of Arezzo, in an area rich in historical sites to visit. The structure is surrounded by monasteries, churches, castles, and fortresses, with truly unique landscapes and scenery. Amid the green hills of Tuscany, in a valley where environment and nature come together to offer pure air, landscape, and trekking, as well as moments of peace in close contact with nature to make your stay unique.

Cinque Terre for an Alternative Nature Experience by the Sea

Parisalla Rural Hub - Forest Bathing

Nestled at the foot of an abandoned 18th-century village, a picturesque 3 km journey along a dirt road leads to this special rest area, where welcoming green spaces await visitors. Located in Val di Vara at 400 meters above sea level and only 40 minutes away from the picturesque sea of the Cinque Terre, this place offers an escape from daily hustle and bustle. This Rural Hub is an enchanting recovery and conservation project offering a unique stay experience, a Karmaturistic project where even a short camper stop becomes a moment of well-being. Here, you can practice forest bathing, a practice that allows you to reconnect with yourself by increasing your connection with nature. This, combined with overnight stays in the woods, is a scientifically proven way to stimulate the immune system. Guests can also rejuvenate with yoga sessions and wellness treatments.

In the Sienese Chianti, a Camper Stop with a Cheese-Making Workshop

Podere Sant'Anna - Flli Sanna

Tuscany is known for its good food and local, organic production. Want to learn how to make Sienese cheese “cacio”? Then take advantage of the camper rest area set up within the Fratelli Sanna Farm in Monteroni d'Arbia in the province of Siena. The farm is about 5 km from the wonderful city of Siena, more precisely on the route of the Via Francigena and the Eroica. Here you can discover all the secrets of the transformation process of Sardinian sheep milk milked on the farm by visiting the family dairy and finally tasting specialties like truffle pecorino, walnut pecorino, and naturally, the aged cheeses. The tasting consists of sampling various types of pecorino (4 or 5, depending on what's available) paired with onion marmalade, green tomato jam, etc. Here, you will find nothing but peace, tranquility, organic food, nature, and even animals to keep you company!
